boohoo, no post! :(

fans go whir, lights go blinken, but no post and no lights on the troubleshooting leds (which suggests a cpu problem).

well, fark. here's hoping I just forgot to connect something or other.

something tells me I didn't, though.

Cleared the CMOS?
Reseated the CPU?
Otherwise yeah, time to start returning stuff :(

I'm happy to say that the first thing I did was clear the cmos, and the second was reseat the cpu.

Neither helped, but at least I instinctively knew what to try, which is a pretty crappy consolation prize, true, but it's a prize nonetheless.

How might I tell whether it's the mobo or the cpu? I'd rather not send everything back enmass if I can isolate the bad piece.

I'm a go have a quick pint now and hope the great god of guinness strikes me with sudden inspiration.

Without another compatible motherboard, or a very understanding friend who owns one, I can't think of a way. You may be able to test out your new RAM on your old board.

Cheers!

Is the little tiny, crackly speaker hooked up to the motherboard? It sounds almost like a RAM problem (re-seat the RAM sticks...) or a video card problem (re-seat that...) except both would beep various amounts of beeps through the tiny, crackly speaker instead of your sound card.

It may also be due to the fact that a) you're not naked, or b) you're not documenting the fact that you're naked.

It may be the first thing or the second thing, based on that whole right brain/left brain thing.

Or, it's just broke. :(
