Price being equal, which would you get?

XFX PVT84JUDD3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

EVGA 256-P2-N761-AR GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail

EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card - Retail

Two are ~$130, one's a little more. Is a 256-bit memory interface really all that? And aren't the 8600s a little better with power consumption? I'll probably do SLI, but not for quite awhile.

What would you do?

i would go for the 7900
based purely on the number it's the most powerful one. probably better speeds than the other two.
i don't know much about these things though.

Rob bought the first one on your list and I would bet that was part of his problem. I think he needed something better because of all the on line gaming and "other stuff" he does.

If it were me and I had the ability to upgrade this poor thing, I would go with the best of them all. Just me, but it would give you more options, wouldn't it?

K... sugar? The GT is far and away the much better card.

The "GTS" designation is for cards that get "stripped down" to become more affordable. Features that make a GT cool, fast and groovy... get turned off for the GTS versions of the cards.

The GS is a good card but again, it's a "lesser card" than the GT... purely as a function of the designation "GT" versus GTS versus GS.

I read a few reviews on each of these (just now...) and there seems to be an overwhelming "diss" for the GTS and a big smile out there for the GT.

SO if you have your choice... I'd go for the 8600GT.

The 7900 GS. It plays most modern games faster than the 8600s. And in the future, when more games are released that would have run faster on the 8600, there will be much better options at this price point.

Yeah, if you're not getting the 8800GTS/X then you might as well get the 7900.

what platform are you running on ?
AMD Athlon 64 ?

I'd agree with 7900 it's set up to do more for you in the long run.
Just becareful not to push the settings to max on certain games.

Just FYI, WoW doesn't take advantage of SLI configurations. Learned that lesson the hard way :/
