I have Dreamweaver 3 on an old win2k partition. It has all my site info (which I desperately need).
Dreamweaver 3 keeps all that info in the registry.
However, that partition isn't booting. If it were, I could theoretically just go to
and export that part of the registry, right?
What can I do?
There's a nifty tool here
that does EXACTLY what I want-- rescues Dreamweaver sites from a different partition-- but it doesn't seem to actually work with Dreamweaver 3.
OK, LJ prevented me from posting the above due to my journal being in "read-only" status for whatever reason.
I'm keeping it here for posterity anyway, so that I learn the lesson that asking for help is sometimes enough to solve a problem, even if the help itself isn't strictly necessary. Apparently, just trying to post that message relaxed me enough to create a solution.
In the last few minutes I've:
Found a registry editor and somehow managed to snag the keys from the old NTUSER.dat on the other partition
Exported those keys (one of the only things the demo version of the proggie actually would do!) to a .reg file
Opened the .reg file in notepad
Found and used a web-based password recovery app
Got all site info in one handy place (including passwords)
Stopped freaking out
All in a day's work, I guess. Except that I'm not actually paid to do webwork or solve weird little IT problems.
Sometimes being a multiclass character is handy, I guess! Even if I never will achieve a particularly high level in anything.
Here's hoping I didn't manage to muck up my own registry while looking for that solution!
