And on the Fourth Day, She Journaled ; P

Jed Clampett of the New Millennium

Saw Bela Fleck1 and the Flecktones at the Palace Theatre last night with my friend Miss M. : D They played a good mix of their stuff... I especially liked Jeff Coffin's as-yet-unnamed waltzy composition (I'm really fond of his work as a composer). And at the end, Bela soloed, playing Linus and Lucy (hee!) and a really awesome classical piece. I'm familiar with the piece but cannot, for the life of me, remember what it's called. I'm pretty sure it was Mozart, though it may have been Vivaldi. It'll dawn on me eventually. In any case, it was terrifically difficult, and he had to play part of it with his face. No, really.

Some of the solos and monologues might have been considered excruciatingly long, but I thought they were all yum. Every member of that group is incredibly talented.

They've signed up to do five more albums... I think Bela's doing two of them for Sony Classical. If you don't think classical music translates well to the banjo... well, you haven't heard Bela yet, I guess.

Oh, and it was good to see such a large and widely-mixed crowd : ) I even ran into, and got to hug, Party Bob, Nancy and Lala2. Rather wishing I had mingled more downstairs... I think there were more than a few people there that I knew. Ah, well.

Afterwards, we decided to hit up a couple bars (we only made it to one, though).

Behold, the Power of Hemp

Saw a sign en route that said:
"Coming soon... Active Hemp!"

"Active hemp, activate! Power of... Hookah! Power of... Joint!"

OK, guess you had to be there. : P

Haven't been inactive due to its powers in quite a long while. Never really quit it as such; just grew tired of it3. Was offered once again last night, but again, gracefully declined.

Mistress Nuts 'n Berries, the Hollywood Pool Shark

Played pool like a pro at some bar called The Hollywood Cafe4. My friend met a friend who reminded me somehow of my friend. His two friends attempted to flirt with me, but didn't really try too hard (probably because they were friends5 and didn't want to compete with each other too much). They (and everybody else at the table) called me "Red."6 I find that amusing. It's nice to be flirted with by strangers sometimes, especially when it's not offered too seriously.

One of the guys suggested I bring "my whips and handcuffs" next time. ...huh? Wha? Admittedly, I have been reading quite a bit about... "alternate lifestyles" ...of late. But it's not something I talk about... and yet, ever since then, men have been making odd comments about whips and chains in my presence. And I've had not one, but several offers for slaves. I haven't been wearing the kinky boots, either! Thinking it must be the hair, the leather jacket and the unusually-high level of self-confidence I seem to be exuding7. I'm finding these reactions I'm getting oddly disconcerting... and yet, at the same time, a source of almost-endless amusement ; ) Hoping Somebody Upstairs is getting a good chuckle out of all this.

Miss M's friend walked us8 her home. It was slushy and icy, but we each made it back in once piece.

Oh-- note to self: Nuts 'n Berries
Hazelnut (liquor, I assume, though I don't think I've seen it before)
Raspberry liquor
Bailey's
Cream

I suspect one mixes equal amounts of all four ingredients, but don't quote me on that.

I'm not much of a shot-drinker, but damn, they were yum. Glad the bartender knew the recipe, because I'd only had it once before and had no clue what was in them.

Fuzzyhappydances

Only twelve days until I descend upon Florida once again. Looking forward to that, I am!! My friend is just Entirely Too Much Fun to hang out with : )

*mentally happydances*

I'd do a real *happydance*, but Mr. Kitty is sprawled across my lap and arms and kb, and, by the sounds of it, is getting some sort of immense pleasure from my tippity-tappiting on the kb. (He likes the computer. It's an open invitation to Lapland) : )

Nonse(x)quitur:

Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex.

There. You all happy? You naughty, naughty journalers, you. (No offense intended to the non-naughty among you.)

Speaking of sex, welcome to the provocative, profound and inquisitive Lianna : )

And thanks to everyone who added to the list... I finally added "boss's desk" since it seemed so popular ; ) Oh, and "department store's revolving door" was just too awesome. Please feel free to add more (via comments or AIMing me) as you see fit! I'm getting an awfully big kick out of it.

Another, Considerably Less-sexy Nonsequitur:

Allow me to close with a song (sing along, if you know the words!)--

*ahem*

in her bestest Cookie-Monster voice, she sings

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie cookie cookie starts with C!

Y'know what?
A round cookie with one bite out of it looks like a C!
A round donut with one bite out of it also looks like a C!
BUT IT IS NOT AS GOOD AS A COOKIE!
And the moon sometimes looks like a C!
But you can't eat that!

C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
C is for cookie, that's good enough for me
Oh, cookie cookie cookie starts with C!

*makes fabulous cookie-monster cookie-eating noises*

The Fine Print

1 I adore that man, I really do. What an awfully nice guy he is. And so talented, too!

2 I know a lot of people with funny nicknames. None of them own computers. : P

3 I have a computer for heaven's sake; who needs drugs?!

4 I didn't see any coffee, and it resembled Hollywood in no way at all.

5 Friends, not friends ; P

6 Heh-- the line "they don't know that she dyes her hair" (Thomas Dolby; Airhead (remix, in this case)) just played when I wrote that Red line. Not the first time today that's happened... today is a day of musical synchronicity, I think. Enjoying that muchly : D

7 *Looks up, and slowly peels something off her forehead* Hey, who stuck this "Silly wabbit, DominaTrix is for kids" bumper sticker up there?!

8 I trudged along behind, like the dutiful friend I am (I know she'd do the same for me) : ) I hope he calls her; he seemed articulate and fun, and his interest in her appeared to be quite genuine.

9 Another blessing on the head of the inventor of the tube-cookie.
