I saw my friend again today.
Photo of an owl
He is hollow inside, and through his eyes you can see the sky beyond.

I'm feeling all kinds of: flux
What I hear: Emptyvee in the background

He is very marsupialish, ain't he!

Better watch out: That thing is bigger than my fat cat! He'll take your head off if you complain about the mail, Harry Potter!

I always hear him before I see him :) He likes to hang out in the woods behind our house. It's a very suburban area, hardly wild, so I'm rather surprised to see him at all!

Wow, thanks so much for the info! This is delicious stuff!

I'm still not certain what kind he (she?) is, but I'll be digging through the Sibley just as soon as my books are unpacked. :)

I'm trying to figure out what type of owl he is. In the picture he looks kind of whitish. If so he'd be a snowy owl, but maybe thats wrong and they don't live in your area. There are some really interesting owls in michigan. One even sounds like a girl screaming. A scary sound to wake up in the middle of the night to.

This one sounds like your standard owl... and he's brown. I just lightened the photo so you could see him (he was too far away to catch the flash!) :)

I think I much prefer my owl to the screaming girl one!

Barred owl - probably

I discovered your livejournal a few weeks ago by following library links. I was amazed to see that you moved to Gainesville (I moved here a couple of years ago myself!). I’ve lived in Gainesville before though, so I knew what to expect. If your owl is making loud monkey like noises it is probably a barred owl. We have a few of them in our neighborhood in the NE section of town also. Welcome to Gainesille – glad that you like it.

He is hollow inside, and through his eyes you can see the sky beyond.

Wow - that really is an amazing effect.

His eyes must have caught the flash just so. I didn't even realize it was on!
