She... - Ldy, the lemony, ligerish ducttaparian's Magic Treehouse of Lost Thoughts
A classy broad's life... with footnotes.

She...
...has fleas.

...is ten years old.

...has apparently been spayed.

...obviously had a family at one point.

...has to have drops in her ears for three weeks.

...was apparently unfamiliar with the concept of closed car windows, and kept trying to jump out of them. Once she realized that this wasn't a viable option, she rode the rest of the way curled up on my lap.

...was a real trouper at the vet. She got tested and vaccinated and dewormed and shaved (to see if she'd been spayed) without complaint. She even purred when they cleaned out her ears. Poor girl.

The vet gave me a deep deep deep deep discount.

She and Max are getting along quite well, all things considered. (Where "all things considered" means "even though she's sleeping on one of his favourite blankets.")
.
If I can't take her, I hope to find her a home with friends (or a FOAF). I don't think the shelter is a good option for a ten year old cat.

Regardless of whether I personally keep her or not, she needs a name. Kali*, or Harley**?

Could I possibly be more adorable? No.

Poll #361662 Name that cat!

Name, please:

Kali!
20(37.7%)
Harley!
21(39.6%)
Something else!
12(22.6%)

Something else?

Of course, her actual name will be determined by what suits her best. But I'm interested in knowing what you folks think :)

* Kali -co
** Harley -quinn
*** I'm not terribly original with names, I'll admit.
**** A related conversation-- Paul: "I think you've been adopted, and although I wasn't really for it before, I think you-- we-- should keep her." Me: "Really? Honest? I love you :)" Paul: "Yeah, really. Just remember this when I start talking about babies. ;)"
***** And yes, I can hear emoticons over the phone.

I'm feeling all kinds of: I'm a cat lady in need of saving
What I hear: music? That's a good idea!

She's beautiful. She looks a lot like our Ruby.

Hee. Yes, she is! She sticks her tongue out a lot, too. It's adorable beyond words :)

On a completely different subject, I hope Danny's feeling better! The child of a friend of mine had the same illness last year, and I know it's NO FUN.

He's doing really well. He never got the spots on his hands or feet, just on his tongue and mouth. He seems to be over it now...I just need him to sleep thru the night again!

I've heard that male cats are more accepting of a new feline housemate than females, but I've never had the chance to test it. I've had poor luck with two different females, but the second one is a bit younger and sort of gets along with the kidz now. Sometimes. At least to the point of all of them sleeping on the same bed (or lap!) at the same time.

I've found that to be true in my own experience-- females tend to be more vocal and territorial than male cats. Go figure!

She hisses once in awhile when she's feeling scared, but Maxman is very patient, and they're getting along just fine.

The Damncat accepted the Fuzz pretty quickly. Give MaxMan a day or two - keep them in separate rooms or something for a while. We kept the door cracked open enough that they could see and smell one another, but not squeeze through to cause harm.

It's mostly worked. The fact that Ramses can be a bit of a bully worked against us.

All in all, they're pretty accepting of one another. Max is an extremely gentle and patient cat, and [insertcatnamehere] is a lovebug. They're mostly staying out of each other's ways, but tend to hang out in the same general areas. Close, but not TOO close :)

10 years old...

i bet it will be hard finding a home for her. most people want young cats. i think if it was me, i'd keep her (assuming my own max the cat got along with him)

Sam!

as in Sam & Max, a goofy computer game I watched a friend play.
I have friends that use Kali & Harley as handles, so I had to think.
one of my exes had a tortie named Phaedrus.
was a very nice cat, until she had kittens.
serendipity From: serendipity Date: October 5th, 2004 08:29 pm (UTC) (permalink)
From the pic, she looks more like a tortie than a calico. My soulmate cat (Prudence J. Peepers) was a tortie but attempts to make icons from her pics didn't turn out too well. So I'll use an icon of my middle cat, who was one handsome guy.

I'm glad you found out about her history and that she's healthy (2 of my 3 cats had ear mites that required drops, too - it's fairly common).

Do you have a shelter or humane society to call in case someone might be looking for her? It could be she's still wanted but somehow got lost, you never know. If not, I'm so glad she found you so that you can either share your life with her or find her another loving home.

She looks like a Snickers to me.

Mrrr, so pretty!

If you can find a carrier big enough for both cats, that might be an option for transportation to FL. My cats have one large carrier between them, but then again, they're also brother and sister, and theyc get very stressed and upset anytime they're forcibly kept apart.
