Random frangible lyric moment of the week

POPSYNTHFLASHBACK

Lawn Chairs

Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them to me-- to me
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them to me-- to me
As you screen out the light that colours your skin, can you dress for protection
are you having some fun-- some fun
Are you sleeping with someone special tonight, can she drink tall drinks
will they make her feel right-- feel right
Because
lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them to me-- to me
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them to me-- to me
It's a holiday, in the middle of the week, as you leave from your job-- it's a holiday
It's a holiday, in the middle of the week, as you leave from your job-- for only two weeks
She's a boy that we like and he's gonna go far
She's a boy that we like and he's gonna go far-- go far
She's a boy that we like and he's gonna go far
She's a boy that we like and he's gonna go far-- go far
Because
lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them
Lawn chairs are everywhere, they're everywhere, and my mind describes them
and my mind
describes
them

--Our Daughter's Wedding

This song was a BIG HIT for, oh, gosh... at least several days in the very early Eighties (maybe longer in the UK). Unfortunately, its catchy popsynth hook and surreal lyrics got stuck in my still-forming brain during those few days. Many moons later, I found that I COULD NOT RID MYSELF OF THEM. Of course, I merely had to hear it again to break its spell... Simple, no?

Well, over the course of more than TEN YEARS, I valiantly tilted at windmills and harassed a multitude of DJs in my search for it. But it had disappeared into nothingness. Even the big radio people in NYC said my quest was pretty hopeless, although they did have a vague remembrence of it, (which at least lent credence to my theory that this was, indeed, a real song and not just something I dreamed up after eating a bit of bad fish or something).

By the time I discovered Napster, I had just about succeeded in my original quest-- to forget the damned thing. Or at least, I had pretty much given up hope on ever finding it.

Until last night.

Out of the clear blue, my mind suddenly described lawn chairs again. On a lark (not a real lark), I decided to search. I expected a Whole Lotta Nuttin'.

But, Bing, bang, ZAPOWIE! A BLINDING FLASH OF POPSYNTH revealed TWO fully-assembled and pingable LAWN CHAIRS!!

It was so late, and I had such limited bandwith... but I just couldn't chance losing it after so long.

So last night... late last night... WAY past this little one's bedtime... I FINALLY GOT IT. It was worth dozing at the kb for (and dangling participles for, too!).

Bless you Napster... and bless whoever it was that originally copied this. (Afaik/r, this only came out on 12" vinyl). You doth rule, oh Nameless Infringer of All that is Right with Copies!! Kisskiss!

Now, will somebody please fetch me some pleather?!! I must wear bad eyeshadow and robotdance...

...and, 20 years later, abandon all hope of ever forgetting this silly little song. ;)

Hmm... if I posted lyrics to a random song, say, weekly... would that make people...
happy?? angry?? annoyed?? pukey?? enthralled?? naughty?? What?

Welcome to the witty and smart compostheap! Y'know, I read that as Compos the AP the first few times I read it... :) Well-met!

And apologies to everyone for not being around so much lately... I'm attempting to have a life that doesn't increase my butt size six ways from Tuesday. ('tain't easy, neither! I so enjoy a good sit!)

Much love.

Oh, heck. I just HAD to go read muse's latest entry before posting. Lovely jewel writes like I only wish I could. Waiting ten years for a silly song seems so insignificant now... Hmm. How I wish I could throw pansies and panting publishers pitching their plunder at her feet pretty mystical mermaid's tail.

And in case anyone else thought along the fragile/tangible lines....
