sixth sense, indeed
He's out and about, seeing some band. The movie was done, so I thought I'd send him a text message (text messages help keep one sane when one is 1200 miles away from one's beloved). Keep in mind that these messages were within mere seconds of each other.

Me: Great movie! :)
Him: Mark's band is fun. Straight classic rock, good time, covers. Nothing fancy. just up and dance, woo-hoo and stuff. How did you like the movie?
Me: Did you just write that?
Him: Whoa! Freaky. Answered my question before I asked!

It would be freaky, except that it happens so often.

I'm feeling all kinds of: I sense live people
What I hear: incidental music from the dvd, and radar love in my head

OK- here's a story

So I'm standing on stage with Bill Gates, announcing that Microsoft has licensed our technology to be built into Windows 3.1. It's called .mmm and it brings all the power of Director to Windows.

Ever heard of Shockwave? How 'bout Flash?

OK - so I'm on stage, shit's flying all around on the Mac screen and there's a dull, boring Windows screen up on the other projector display screen. I hit a button and teh Mac stuff flay across between teh two display screens and appears on teh Windows screen.

Multimedia comes to Windows.

We've got these pre-canned scripts we're reading from "Microsoft is excited about working with MacroMind,,,,,blah blah blah". Gates puts his arm around me. The cameras click.

So we come down from the stage and Gates walks away. I go over to the payphone - call the wife (now ex) and try to tell her what just happened. All she can do is bitch about some $223 check.

Cut to a few motnhs later - I'm keynoting the 1st Microsoft Multimedia Developer's Conf. Gates and a guy named Rob Glaser (the founder and CEO of Real Networks) are listening to me spell our MacroMind's (now Macromedia's strategy.) They hadn't realized all it's scope and goals. They had negotiated and paid for a platform that was going to undermine their own strategy.

We were doing a Microsoft on Microsoft.

Ooooops! From that day on - Microsoft never returned our calls, we got our $100k check and..... Windows never shipped with .mmm.

True story.

Re: OK- here's a story

Ha! Microsoft deserves as many Microsofts as you can throw at it! :D

Sorry to hear that your ex didn't realize that even if your experience that day WEREN'T important on a larger scale (disregarding for the moment that it was) it was important to you, and that's what matters. I take it your current wife has a bit more sense. :)

I'd no idea how influential you were when I met you, or how much of an effect you've had on my world. Bear with me if some of my questions seem obtuse or uninformed :)

I still remember when multimedia was using >COLOR to change the bkgrd in dos. It wasn't that long ago, was it? Sheesh. ;)
