Someday is _not_ a day of the week

I slept 4 hours night-before-last, worked a 13-hour day (for 8 hours pay), then got stuck in the Wide World of Bullfinch last night 'til all hours. I really shouldn't push myself so hard sometimes.

Note to self: above is not a valid excuse to get out of cleaning the house today!

Messy Room

Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
His underwear is hanging on the lamp.
His raincoat is there in the overstuffed chair,
And the chair is becoming quite mucky and damp.
His workbook is wedged in the window,
His sweater's been thrown on the floor.
His scarf and one ski are beneath the TV,
And his pants have been carelessly hung on the door.
His books are all jammed in the closet,
His vest has been left in the hall.
A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed,
And his smelly old sock has been stuck to the wall.
Whosever room this is should be ashamed!
Donald or Robert or Willie or--
Huh? You say it's mine? Oh, dear,
I knew it looked familiar!

--Shel Silverstein
from the book "A Light in the Attic" (1981)

Hmm I wonder... why was Ed the Lizard wearing socks in the first place?

Well, the chairs aren't quite mucky and damp yet, but it looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Speaking of the wonderful and very-missed Shel, I wrote the following for someone else, but thought it might interest my other friends as well:

Did you know that, along with writing "children's stuff" Shel used to do a myriad of other things, including drawing comics for Playboy, writing screenplays and writing tons of music, like...

  • ...all the "good" Dr. Hook songs (like "Cover of the Rolling Stone)?

  • ..."The Unicorn" sung by The Irish Rovers (~green alligators, and long-necked geese...~)?

  • ...songs recorded by Johnny Cash and Cybill Shepherd and Marianne Faithful?

  • and all these things*?

...I didn't.

Ach, I'm procrastinating* again.

And it's a very good thing I couldn't find a Silverstein poem on procrastination, or I'd be here all day. :P

Hope you're having a lovely Saturday.

And I hope Windows doesn't collapse on me AGAIN before I get this posted :P

* Procrastination is like masturbation. At first it feels good, but in the end you're only screwing yourself.
