Friday Five

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?

No. I added an extra (silent) e to my first name in my early twenties. I call it my vanit-e. It was a outward representation of inner change.

It's on everything but my birth certificate and Social Security card.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I'm, uhm, thinking about changing my last name... but not because I don't like my current one.

In fact, I like my current one. A lot. I'd always imagined I'd keep it forever, one way or another.

Definitely rethinking that... *blush*

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

The story goes, my Mom wanted to name me Carol, and my Dad wanted to name me Lynne. Or perhaps it was the other way around.

According to the story, it was a highly-unusual instance of compromise on their part.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

Nothing comes to mind atm.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?

Yes and yes. They're both pretty damned close. (I do believe I'd written about this once before, but I couldn't locate the post quickly enough.)
The name of Carolyn gives you a clever, quick, analytical mind [yeah], but you suffer with a great deal of self-consciousness, lack of confidence, and much aloneness because of misunderstandings [hell yeah. ten year olds shouldn't consider suicide]. Your idealistic and sensitive nature gives you a deep appreciation for the finer things of life and a strong desire to be of service to humanity [I suppose]. There are times when you experience inner turbulence at your inability to say what you mean [oh YES-- I was always tripping over my words!]. It is far easier for you to express your deeper thoughts and feelings through writing than verbally [this still holds true :)]. You find pleasure in literature, in poetry, and in your ideals and will turn to them when you feel you have been misunderstood [couldn't be truer]. You are deeply moved by the beauties of life, especially nature [still very true]. Because your feelings run deep, you must guard against the ups and downs, being very inspired one minute, then moody, reserved, and depressed the next [I'd wondered for awhile if I were bipolar or schizophrenic]. Your reactions to people vary according to how you feel [erm, don't most people's?]. You tend to be secretive and noncommittal about private matters [yes yes yes], yet at times you will talk effusively in order to hide your self-consciousness or to lead others away from personal subjects [also very true]. You are inspired by encouragement from others, yet suspicious of their intent [yes, I was]. You crave affection but seldom find anyone who understands your nature [yuppers].

A lot of that began to change when I made that minor change to my first name. It's pretty freaky, really.
Although your first name of Carolyne has created an expressive, fun-loving nature [teehee!], it has not produced the qualities necessary for a full and complete life [and those are...?]. You have always been a happy person [well, since I changed my name I have been!], and, desiring to see others happy as well, you strive to inspire others, which you do most effectively through an engaging sense of humour [uhm, yeah :)]. You are fond of surprises [hee] and are quick to respond to spontaneous invitations which promise a good time, particularly when they relieve you of a boring task [don't most people?]. Your dislike for monotony and routine, often means that you do not finish the things you start [Geminis should not adopt this name. whoops!]. A natural rhythm, a sense of colour harmony, and creative ability contribute to a flair for composition and artistic and musical expression [cool :)]. Expression comes easily to you; in fact, you should learn to control it and discipline your expression [you've been a very naughty expression!]. You are not practical where money matters are concerned, your theory being that money is there to be spent [Hm, no-- I'm crazy-good with money; only recently have I been giving any credence at all to this new theory]. You are kind and generous, and will fill a need when you see it; at times, others take advantage of your generosity [latter doesn't tend to be true]. The most serious drawback of the influence of this name is in the strong emotional feelings that it produces, which are difficult to control and create lack of stability in your thinking or in your affairs [WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?!! I KEEEEEL J000000000!].

Is it just me, or does the beginning of the second part sound like they knew it was an assumed name?

And yes, I have given up on the whole "let's keep my name a secret from folks I haven't met in person" thing. Get over it!

Hope the Campers are getting ready for a HELLA good time! I'm with ya in spirit!
