Voiceover, in a darkened room:

And here we have a special exhibit!

While not the largest example of Dorkus Stupidus known to man, the Ldy is a stunning example of the species.

Lights go up on Ldy, looking positively Neanderthal, pulling the tenth stay from beneath a nine-screw motherboard.

So, the IT guy at Paul's work offered to send a couple regular PCI video cards over to test if Paul could rescue my outgoing motherboard from the shipping department.

He did. And as I was ready to mount it*, I noticed an extra stay on the frame. A stay that would certainly be shorting out my system.

How did I miss that the first few times through? HOW?! More than one person mentioned it to me.

I carefully replaced everything... including my new video card... and lo and behold, IT POSTS.

I'm mucking with the BIOS now. And drinking champagne. And dancing.

I wrote the following to a friend earlier today:
It's the apparent "flaws" that make us interesting, that make us heroes. Better to be a beautiful, if bumbling, archetype of what it is to be human, than a zombie (like so many choose to be).

I AM that archetype, thank you very much. And I've never been so happy to be so stupid in my life.

The replacement board will go back Monday when it gets here.

I'm such a dork :D

* OUT of the gutter, please.
