Well. My boss just consulted a Naturopath on what to do about this skin condition. And not just any naturopath-- but one who is knowledgeable in 21 different disciplines. Happens to be a client of ours.
This guy is amazing.
I didn't think to ask him because I'm still not certain what causes it (other than stress). How could he recommend treatment without having made a diagnosis?
Pfft. Diagnosis, schmiagnosis. He had an answer anyway.
Megadoses of Vitamin C, powdered so that it gets into the system more quickly. 4 GRAMS every four hours. Sheesh. I'm crushing up tablets with a spoon, feeling like a junky. They taste absolutely wretched. They'll be even more evil on the way out, I'll warrant; megadoses of C can do a job on your bowels. TMI, I know. Hopefully, this, too, will pass before my plane takes off in the morning.
I'm already feeling kind of buzzy from this. Hee.
It's kind of neat-- my skin feels warm to the touch, but the skin feels the air as cool. I've got mad goosebumps going on.
What's really happening: the vitamin C is preventing the secretion of histamine by white blood cells and increasing the rate that histamine is broken down.
Perhaps I'll have some green tea, as well (green tea is very high in polyphenols, which have been shown to inhibit histamine release).
No OTC antihistamine has ever helped this condition whatsoever. However, there's obviously a histamine reaction going on, and that would tie-in with the white-blood cell anomaly from a few years back.
This little guinea pig will keep you posted :)
