Nobody on Windows & .net Magazine's forums or microsoft.public.win2000.general seemed able to help. On the upside, I did find a couple quick fixes to Other People's Problems. Even got a couple thank yous :)
It struck me at one point that I'm rather knowledgeable about stuff I have no business being knowledgeable about (namely, win2k, which I've only been using for a few months). Heh-- wonder when that happened? Eh, no matter. I'm sure I'd be really pleased about this realization if I weren't in such a desperate need to find someone a lot more knowledgeable than me ;)
I still have a couple tricks up my sleeve, however...
- Recovery Console/Repair disk (OS runs, just doesn't seem to load kb-- could be registry, could be ntoskrnl.exe-- this might fix whatever it is)
- Enable boot logging. See if I can access C:\WINNT\Ntbtlog.txt via command prompt or remotely
- Remote connection through crossover cable to old computer
- See if there's any way to create second partition on C: drive and do second full install of WIN2K on that
I WILL get this working again. Somehow. I just hope it doesn't take too much longer. I also hope I don't lose anything on the C: drive as a result (I do feel a bit better knowing that most of my data was intentionally kept on other drives-- that was a smart move at setup!-- but I'd still hate to lose all the proggies and stuff. I'm such a packrat! :P)
See you on the other side :)
