I know this girl... - Ldy, the lemony, ligerish ducttaparian's Magic Treehouse of Lost Thoughts
A classy broad's life... with footnotes.

I know this girl...
I know this girl

She fell for a man in a far-off land
He fell for her, too, so she got closer
He was fat, drunk and unhappy
Hating life and all in it, including this girl
This girl that I know

He cooled down as she heated up
They say they stayed together for the cats.

They stuck around

I know this girl

Fat, drunk and unhappy grew slim, sober and joyful
Fell head over heels at a close friend's wake
For the close friend's ex on two bottles of wine
Just when this girl started falling again
This girl that I know

He cooled down as she heated up
He lives with the cats down the road somewhere.

He's still around

I know this girl

She fell for a guy who wasn't there
He fell for her, too, but never let on and never let go
Of the old to reach out for the new
the new just lingered and lingers sometimes still
This girl that I know

He cooled down as she heated up
He lives with his dogs and his girlfriend somewhere.

He's still around

I know this girl

Began to fall for a boy who had no strings
They drank wine and had fun intercoursing in puns
Not tied down to anyone, not any one
He goes home with those girls, but not this girl
This girl that I know.

He cooled off as she heated up
He's rarely alone but is very alone somewhere.

He's still around

So I know this girl
Who has these friends
Who are still around

She keeps in touch
She stays in touch
Almost every day

And she tries to stay warm
By not being alone
But she's always alone
This girl that I know

I know this girl

She is so very happy
The center of attention
But a sadness in her eyes
Never quite goes away
And I think I've heard her cry
When she thought she was alone
She often thinks she's alone
When she's not really alone
Though she's always alone
This girl that I know

I know this girl

And I'm longing to show her
Her finer attributes
To tell her she's wanted
smart, funny and hot
All I could ever
wish I could become
When I grew up
Were I to grow up

And I wonder if she knows it
Or believes just what she wants to
Makes manifest her lonliness
A flame that's drawing moths
Eating at her confidence
Leaving little holes and such
Beautiful mosaics
Pretty wings that carry costs

She's cooling down as she's eaten up

I would ask her, but I've lost her
Though I could swear I just saw her
But there's nobody in there
In this girl that I know

She's out of reach
She's out of touch

In almost every way
She's not around

This girl that I knew.

I'm feeling all kinds of: I sometimes write bad poetry; I know it turns you on
What I hear: The sweet sweet sound of Ldy getting to sleep before midnight

This is not bad poetry. This is really excellent poetry. I've read it a few times now, and I just really like it. It's deeply...intensely touching. Thanks for sharing it. :-)
